16 Jan 12 - Total E&P UK raises over £50,000 for Cornerstone

Total E&P UK have raised over £50,000 for Cornerstone over the last seven years by taking part in the charity's various fundraising challenges.

Money raised from Total has played a key part in supporting Cornerstone's local services and has gone towards a number of projects such as children's holiday play schemes as well as more recently the Day Opportunities service. This service provides meaningful community based activities for people with disabilities and other support needs in Aberdeen and is vital in maintaining the people Cornerstone support's quality of life by offering social and community experiences, while encouraging them to develop their community networks and develop new skills.

To see first hand the difference their fundraising efforts make Brian Rogers, Offshore Installation Manager at Total's Alwyn Platform and his colleague Sandra McIntosh were invited along to the charity's Day Opportunities Service at their new location at the Aberdeen Arts Centre, where they met Elaine Thomson, Chair of Cornerstone's Board and were presented with a bird feeder made by those who attend the service.

"It's encouraging to see the effect the Cornerstone Cycle Challenge has on the Alwyn offshore team.  People of all abilities rally round to get their target miles on the bike and ensure that we contribute as much as possible to this worthwhile cause." said Brian Rodger, Alwyn OIM.

Without the support of companies such as Total, Cornerstone would not be able to provide the much needed additional services such as Day Opportunities and their holiday play schemes.

Elaine Thomson, Chair of Cornerstone's board added "We'd like to thank Total for their generous and continued support. Their support is absolutely vital in helping Cornerstone continue our work of enabling the people we support to live a valued live, both here in Aberdeen and across Scotland."
