Meet Jamie
Jamie is a 28 year old man who currently lives at home with his mother. He received a brain injury just before his 21st birthday and as a result of a serious accident. He is now deaf in one ear and partially blind in one eye, which can cause him to become frustrated when trying to communicate.
Jamie first began receiving support from Cornerstone in early 2006 and since then has grown in confidence and now plays an active part in his local community. In the last year Jamie has been involved in the local Brain Injury Forum and now attends their meetings without support. With our support he now accesses a wide range of community activities including seasonal voluntary work at the community farm, attending a college computing course, swimming, cinema and eating out.
Through regular service reviews, Jamie's mother has stated that her relationship with him has improved greatly and that both of them greatly value the support and the respite we provide.
Jamie has recently accepted a single tenancy and with a combination of day opportunities and community support from Cornerstone, hopes to live independently. He has always stated that he would like to get a job again and this is something that, through our Employment Service, we plan to make a reality for Jamie.
