Flexible and responsive support for individuals and their families
Cornerstone provides short breaks and respite throughout Scotland. Everyone needs time out from their daily routine and we aim to provide flexible and responsive support to meet the needs of both individuals and their carers.
Our residential respite facilities are purpose built to support people with disabilities and provides overnight stays, weekend breaks and holidays. This means that families can take holidays or weekend breaks, knowing that the individual they care for is safe and well. Our residential respite services can also be used in emergencies and for longer periods if required.
Short breaks can last from a few hours to a few weeks and can take place in a variety of settings. Our services give the people we support the opportunity to enjoy a break from their daily lives and give families and carers some free time to enjoy activities which otherwise might not be possible.
Cornerstone can provide a variety of short breaks, including:
- Support for an individual in their own home or community, including overnight stays
- Support to go on holiday
- Short breaks spent in the home of specially recruited family based carers
- Organised activities and social clubs
- Residential short breaks in a specially adapted house
Meet Cameron
Cameron is a young boy aged seven years and variety of social reasons has led to delayed learning. To support and encourage his development it is important he accesses activities suitable for a child his age and socialises with other children.
Through Cornerstone's summer play scheme Cameron has become more confident and loves playing with other children. He has also established a great relationship with the play scheme leader and has made friends.
Cameron's mum is delighted with his progress stating that "he really is coming out of his shell now".
