Grand Opening of New Beginnings Café in Irvine07 Mar 2019
We are delighted to announce the grand opening of the New Beginnings Café in Irvine, North Ayrshire. The café is Staffed by Cornerstone’s New Beginnings Group. The idea was inspired when a group of people supported by Cornerstone felt there was a need for something in the community to bring people together and prevent isolation.
The New Beginnings Group is made up of young and enthusiastic adults with additional support needs who are looking to have a positive impact on the community. After a year of searching for the location for the café, the group set up in Irvine’s town centre located in the Salvation Army’s Church. The aim is to provide an upbeat and welcoming environment that will cater to everyone.
The grand opening was well-attended with Provost of North Ayrshire Council, Ian Clarkson, ripping up his prewritten speech, instead inviting all attendees to blow into an empty bottle. He said, “What’s inside this bottle represents something special. It’s easy to go to an event and cut a ribbon, but to see people enjoy themselves and see what they’ve achieved is something wonderful, especially here in my home town of Irvine.”
All café staff are supported through Shared Lives; a highly personalised alternative to residential and other forms of care and support. It offers eligible individuals needing support a model of care that is based on sharing a family home in the local community.
Well done to everyone invovled!
