Top Scores for Cornerstone’s Baxter View
Care Inspectorate Award Sector Leading 6s for Excellent Service
Dumbarton, – April 9th, 2019 - Cornerstone, one of Scotland’s largest charities and leading provider of services for people with disabilities and other support needs, is delighted to announce the recent exemplary care inspectorate report awarded to Baxter View, one of their housing support services based in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire.
Baxter View was custom built by Cornerstone in 2014 and comprises of eight individual flats providing “positive and empowering life experiences” to those supported at the service, as noted in the report. Cornerstone is a person-led organisation which always puts the people they support at the centre of everything they do.
The inspection which was conducted in February reported grades for the quality of care and support, as well as quality of management and leadership a 6 – ‘Excellent‘– the top sector leading score given by the care inspectorate. These top scores were followed up with many impressive observations under the “what the service does well” section. The report highlighted that, “people’s activities were tailored to meet their genuine personal interests”, which reflects on Cornerstone’s aim of always putting the people they support at heart of everything they do. Some of the people supported at Baxter View enjoy playing sports, and attending football matches to name just a few of the regular activities, which were reported by the care inspectorate as having “developed their physical and mental health, and helped form new relationships.” The report then went on to say that the care inspectorate “were impressed by the team’s understanding of people’s needs, which were often complex. And there was a high level of consistency in applying guidance in practice. There was an established culture of multi-disciplinary working. The service worked closely with health professionals to create clear and informed protocols. This resulted in people feeling safer and happier.” This feeling of a safe and happy environment was re-iterated by the people living at Baxter View, and their families. Some of their comments included, “I like living here. I have fun with the staff.”, and “The staff are brilliant. They feel like family.”
“I am delighted with the inspection report”, said Margaret Mason, service manager at Baxter View. “Since opening, the team has always worked to high standards taking a flexible and adaptable approach to ensure individual needs are met so people we support can enjoy a valued life achieving their goals and aspirations. Baxter View is a fantastic place to work and we have a great team.”
Team leader Siobhan Cameron then went on to say, “I’m proud to be part of a service and team that delivers high quality care and support to help the people we support reach their potential and achieve their dreams.”
