Our Board
The role of our Board is to ensure that Cornerstone is being well managed in the best interests of our stakeholders, most importantly the people we support. The Board ensures that the organisation’s strategy and policies are adhered to in line with our charitable purpose. The Board also ensures that Cornerstone complies with all applicable rules and regulations.

Helen Stuart
Board Member
With over 25 years’ experience in HR and Leadership, Freelance HR Director Helen has worked in various sectors. Helen has lead teams of professionals across various national and global locations which has given her the broad experience and professionalism that she continues to demonstrate today. Helen joined the board in September 2020.

Stephen Lynch
Board Member
Stephen is a retired General Practitioner and joined Cornerstone's Board in 2020. During his 35 years within the NHS he also worked as Clinical Director for Aberdeen City HSCP until 2018 and held local and national roles within the Royal College of General Practitioners .

Alastair Forbes
Board Member
Alastair joined Cornerstone in 2005. He started his career at Cornerstone as a support worker, then as team leader and then as acting service manager. Since July 2017 he has been a team member in one of our first local care & support teams: Moss Cottage housing support service in Dumbarton. Alastair joined the board in October 2017.

Sharon Irvine
Board Member
Sharon currently works as the manager of Glasgow services’ at Cornerstone. She has worked with Cornerstone since 2005, and is also an active member of NIN (National Involvement Network). Prior to joining Cornerstone, Sharon volunteered for two years with people with learning disabilities. Sharon joined the board in October 2017.

Malcolm Laing
Co-Chair
Malcolm is a retired corporate lawyer who was a partner with Ledingham Chalmers LLP, one of Scotland’s leading law firms. He joined the Cornerstone board in 2001, becoming vice-chair in 2007 and chair in 2017. He was a member of Aberdeen Harbour Board from 2012-2017 and took up the role of Cornerstone co-Chair,alongside Elaine Thomson,in July 2020.

Helen Munro
Board Member
Helen had a long career in local government and was director of community services with Stirling Council before she retired in 2005. Since retiring she has been involved in the governance of several voluntary organisations. She was awarded an MBE in 2002. Helen now chairs Cornerstone’s quality committee.

Elaine Thomson
Co-Chair
Elaine is now retired from a career in IT. She joined the Cornerstone board after leaving the Scottish Parliament where she was MSP for Aberdeen North from 1999-2003. Elaine served as chair of Cornerstone from 2005 until 2012 and took up the role of co-Chair, alongside Malcolm Laing, in July 2020.

Tony Dinozzi
Board Member
Chartered Accountant, Tony Dinozzi, also joins the Cornerstone board this month. Becoming Group Head of M&A at John Wood Group PLC in 2000, Tony has vast experience in fundraising and leads Wood’s fundraising efforts for the Archie Foundation and Maggie’s, Aberdeen, having raised almost £400,000.

Geoff Huggins
Board Member
Appointed Director of Health and Social Care Integration in April 2014, Geoff brings a wealth of experience to the board, having worked across a variety of roles covering housing and education policy in Scotland and politics and security with the Northern Ireland Office.

Hazel Brown
Chief Executive
Hazel has worked within health and social care throughout her career. Firstly as a front line carer, then as a qualified mental health nurse before completing a post graduate degree in Community Care. She joined Cornerstone in 2008 as Regional Manager for West of Scotland and then Leader of Quality. She was appointed Chief Executive in July 2020.
