Peter Nicholson (Chair)

Peter retired as Group Head of
Human Resources for global energy
services company John Wood Group
plc; a position he held since joining
the company in 2002. He succeeded
Elaine Thomson as Cornerstone’s Chair at the
2012 AGM. Peter also serves on the Board of
Governors of Robert Gordon University.

Malcolm Laing (Depute Chair)

Malcolm is a partner in the Corporate Team at Ledingham Chalmers LLP, one of Scotland’s leading law firms and a member of Aberdeen Harbour Board. Jim chairs Cornerstone’s Business Development Committee.

Jim Douglas

In 2014, Jim retired from his post as Senior Corporate Manager with Lloyds TSB Scotland plc but continues to work as a consultant for some previous customers. Jim is also on the Consultant Panel for Enterprise North East Trust Limited which provides business support to companies referred under the Survive and Thrive programme. He chairs Cornerstone’s Finance Committee.

Helen Munro

Helen had a long career in local government and was Director of Community Services with Stirling Council before she retired in 2005. Since her retirement she has been involved in the governance of several voluntary organisations, local and national and is the independent chair of the Forth Valley Adult Support and Protection Committee. She was awarded an MBE in 2002. Helen now chairs Cornerstone’s Quality & Audit Committee.

Craig Pollock

Craig is currently working for The Bank of Scotland as Senior Manager in SME Banking Scotland. This involves providing support to Scottish businesses, that have a turnover of over £1 million, through 80 face to face relationship managers which are based throughout Scotland. Craig is Chair of Cornerstone’s Staffing Committee.

Dr Christopher John Scott

John is a retired hospital consultant physician and currently Chairman of Crossroads Forum, Aberdeen. He has been a Cornerstone Board member for over 9 years, presently serving on both the Quality & Audit and Staffing Committees.

Elaine Thomson

Currently a Bid Manager with Absoft Ltd, a SAP consultancy. Elaine joined the Cornerstone Board after leaving the Scottish Parliament where she was MSP for Aberdeen North from 1999-2003. Elaine has seen the charity through the challenging economic climate when she served as Chair from 2005 until 2012 handing over to her successor Peter Nicholson at the 2012 AGM. Elaine continues to support Cornerstone as a Board member.

Ian Robbie


Ian was previously senior partner in the Aberdeen office of chartered accountants Henderson Loggie. He retired in 2012 but has continued his membership of the Public Sector Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.  He joined the Board of Cornerstone in 2014 and is a member of the Finance Committee.

Andrew Lockhart

Andrew is a Corporate Procurement Manager with a leading high street retailer. He joined Cornerstone’s Board in 2013 and brings a wealth of professional experience to the table. Living in Helensburgh and working in Glasgow, Andrew has been a keystone member of Cornerstone’s ‘Enabling a Brighter Future’ (IT project) steering group and the Business Development Committee.

Karen Tyerman


With more than 30 years senior management experience in English local authorities, Karen brings considerable knowledge and practical expertise in commissioning as well as in the direct management and delivery of children’s, education and community services.

Steve Judge


Steve is the managing director of Space Solutions a business he started in 1997 in Aberdeen which today operates across Scotland from offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Livingston and Glasgow.
