Cornerstone Connects Stonehaven – The Trading Corner supports adults with learning disabilities and other support need to live fulfilled and independent lives. We provide training opportunities in retail and classes in Arts & Crafts along with community-based activities.  These are inclusive and meaningful and are person-centred with a view to developing skills and confidence in the people being supported.

We place emphasis on creating natural support networks and forging meaningful relationships by encouraging peer support and friendships whilst working towards achieving outcomes for each Individual;  Acquiring new skills and becoming involved in a workplace increases self-esteem and confidence, gives a person identity and helps a person feel part of the wider community.

Our aims are to:

  • Enable individuals to achieve their personalised outcomes
  • Promote choice
  • Facilitate social interaction and development
  • Support learning new skills/developing existing skills
  • Opening up people’s lives with a range of personalised activities
  • Connecting people to other people and their community
  • Encourage natural support networks

Retail training:

We know that obstacles to employment may be centred on associated skill areas such as money management, social skills, understanding, communication and timekeeping and offer support in these areas to ensure that a person’s aspiration can be realised.  Retail training can be provided within CCS Social Hub and Shop and tailored to each person’s needs and wishes.

Arts & Crafts:

We offer a range of skills-based and therapeutic arts and craft classes to suits peoples needs and capabilities.

The aim of these activities is to encourage creativity which is a useful skill in life and gives individuals the opportunity to create something unique out of materials. It is essentially a positive way for supported people to express their thoughts and ideas. In addition, it helps individuals to make choices as they will have to decide on which tools to use, how to decorate their crafts and how to use them once finished, items can be taken home or sold within the Trading Corner.

Social Skills:

We facilitate a person-centred evening programme, this is partly user-led taking in their suggestions and wishes, these and includes creative activities such as Disco’s, Karaoke, bowling, boccia, quizzes and a range of community leisure experiences.  This gives people the opportunity to broaden their horizons, gain a sense of achievement and help to improve their confidence and self-esteem.  These are group activities and these sessions are held at the Stonehaven Recreation Grounds Club, AB39 2RD.
