We were delighted to welcome Banff & Buchan MP Alex Salmond to officially open our Berrybank residential service in Maud, Aberdeenshire. Joined by Cornerstone staff, the people we support and families and friends, Mr Salmond also announced new funding from the Scottish Investment Fund.

Mr Salmond enjoyed a tour of Berrybank and spent time with the people who live there before planting a commemorative tree in the grounds outside.  This was followed by a short speech where Mr Salmond announced that we have been awarded £1 Million investment from the Scottish Investment Fund.

Commenting Mr Salmond said "I very much enjoyed meeting the people Cornerstone supports, their family, friends and staff and officially open this fantastic new facility.

"The news of the SIF funding for Cornerstone is also fantastic and will assist them to create further services across Scotland which make a difference to the lives of people with disabilities."

Edel Harris, Cornerstone's Chief Executive said "The announcement of  £1 million investment from the SIF is excellent news and will go towards realising some of our ambitions as laid out in our three year strategic plan entitled ‘Moving Forward with Confidence'.  This substantial funding will inevitably help us achieve our aim of enabling people we support to enjoy a valued life.

" We were delighted to welcome Alex Salmond to Berrybank to officially open this great service and the people we support really enjoyed showing him around their flats."

Berrybank is a residential home that supports adults with disabilities and the development received significant financial backing from the Scottish Government Housing and Regeneration Directorate (formerly Communities Scotland) and Aberdeenshire Council.

Berrybank provides supported accommodation with assistive technology and remote monitoring sensors which allows people to live independently, whilst maintaining their safety and security. The residents of Berrybank moved into their new home at the end of 2008 and each resident has their own lounge, kitchen, bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
