Today in our Aberdeen office, a large pot of money was cracked open to reveal £1000! The money was raised by a group of local business women who have been putting their hosting abilities to the test.
A group of 14 friends from the Aberdeen business community, including Cornerstone's Chief Executive, Edel Harris, hosted a series of ‘Come Dine With Me' style evenings to raise money for the charity. The ladies split themselves into 3 teams with dinner parties hosted at each persons home.
The food and wine for the evenings were donated, and each guest contributed £20 to the charitable pot. There were varied forms of entertainment with guests being able to enjoy a retro DJ, a comedian and even receiving Irish Dancing lessons to top off one of the themed evening. Other highlights included a Valentine dinner from Board member Susan Moult, who decorated the house with roses, held a love song quiz and even cooked a red themed menu.
Edel Harris commented that, "We all had a fantastic time hosting the dinner parties and it was a fun way for friends of Cornerstone to get involved with our fundraising activity. Most importantly, the series of dinner parties raised over £1000 for the people we support".
There is however still one more dinner party to be hosted by Judith Thorpe, Director of Thorpe Molly Recruitment, ‘... but the pot was so full and heavy, we couldn't hold onto it any longer!' said Anne Currie, former Procurator Fiscal, who has been keeping the scores for the fundraising dinner parties.
Judith Thorpe has a lot to contend with, and it'll be interesting to see what she has planned. Should you wish to host your own events or get involved in supporting Cornerstone, please contact our fundraising team on 01224 256000.
