Cornerstone, announced at its AGM last night the arrival of a new chairperson, Peter Nicholson.
Peter takes over from Elaine Thomson, who has held the role for the last eight years working closely with founder and former chief executive, Nick Baxter, and current chief executive Edel Harris.
Peter joined the Cornerstone board in 2004 and as the new chairperson he will be responsible for providing support to Edel and her team.
He is currently Group Head of Human Resources for global energy services company John Wood Group PLC and a Governor of the Robert Gordon University.
He said: "I am delighted to continue my involvement with Cornerstone and serve as Chairman of the Board. In these tough economic times it is refreshing to be part of an organisation which continues to lead the way in providing the highest quality of care through its truly outstanding and dedicated staff. "
Elaine, an SAP HE Specialist with Absoft joined the Cornerstone Board after leaving the Scottish Parliament in 2003 and has seen the charity evolve and grow in a very challenging economic climate, increasing the number of services it provides and number of people it supports across Scotland.
Elaine said: "It has been a privilege to serve as chair of Cornerstone over the last eight years as it continues to be one of Scotland's leading providers of care to those with learning disabilities and other disabilities and care needs.
"It has been great to work with Edel, the Board and all the staff at Cornerstone who have, throughout my time, remained absolutely dedicated to providing the highest quality care and support."
"The current environment is extremely challenging for charities with both the squeeze on local government finances and the introduction of new care models such as personalisation so I am pleased that Cornerstone is a robust and innovative organisation that I am sure will develop and grow even further in the years to come.
"I am very pleased to welcome Peter Nicholson as the new chair and I have every confidence that he will provide effective support to Edel Harris and her team so that Cornerstone continues to provide high quality care and fulfil our aim of enabling the people Cornerstone supports to enjoy a valued life. "
Edel Harris added: "There are no words to express our gratitude to Elaine who has given countless hours of her time to Cornerstone since becoming Chair; she has been a great ambassador for the voice of people with a disability across Scotland. I look forward to welcoming Peter Nicholson as our new Chairman."
