Cornerstone announces results of the fifth annual Cornerstone Cycle Challenge today and for the first time ever Talisman Energy (UK) Limited has managed to unseat Marathon as winners of the Onshore Category.
The fifth annual Cornerstone Cycle Challenge, funded and supported by BG Group, has been a great success involving over 2000 participants in 36 teams raising an estimated £65,000 for people with disabilities and support needs in Scotland.
Gordon Cantlay, captain of the Talisman Devils team, said: "We are delighted to have won the onshore category of the Cornerstone Cycle Challenge. We have been hot on Marathon's heels for the last two years. I know that the sponsorship we raise will make a real difference to the people Cornerstone cares for."
Úna O'Keeffe, Event Coordinator, said "We are so grateful for the support of the many companies who take part. It's fantastic that the participants are so enthusiastic. In addition to raising substantial funds for Cornerstone, the initiative promotes health and fitness in the workplace, thus contributing to many organisations' Healthy Working Lives Award Programme."
As part of this year's challenge participants cycled over 90,000 miles in 21 days; the equivalent of cycling five times around the world. The challenge which is Cornerstone's biggest fundraiser, consists of both on and offshore categories. Total's Scallywags team won the offshore category, cycling over 13,400 miles. Sponsorship raised from the Challenge makes a real difference to people with disabilities Cornerstone supports throughout Scotland.
An official award ceremony is planned for 10 November, where Nicola Jolly, the face of the Cornerstone Cycle Challenge, will hand out the trophies and awards.
