RGU students fundraise for Cornerstone

A team of Aberdeen students has organised a unique challenge event to raise money for Cornerstone.

The group of final year Events Management students at Robert Gordon University has created Escape the Woods, a post-apocalyptic themed team challenge event that requires participants to use their brains or lose them in the gory, messy challenges they could potentially face during a zombie outbreak.

During Escape the Woods, participants will be ’abandoned’ on a training ground in teams of up to five people and will compete against the clock on the course for the chance to win a £450 Bedlam Paintball voucher.

On the course, participants will face rogue zombies that could infect them with ‘infection powder’ (powder paint) alongside the challenges that will require them to get messy, use their brains to move ‘toxic waste’ without touching it and practice their headshots at zombie targets.

To develop the theme and event storyline, the team of students have partnered with Quids In Theatre Company, the brains behind the popular Aberdeen event ‘Z in the Park’, that finished in 2016 and inspired the team to create Escape the Woods.

The registration fee for the event is £40 per team with participants encouraged to seek out their own sponsorship and £150 Bedlam Paintball vouchers are being awarded to the two top fundraising teams.

All money raised from the event will directly benefit Cornerstone’s Quality of Life Programme which aims to transform the lives of local people by providing access to essential specialised equipment, services and activities that would otherwise be unavailable. This removes some barriers that children and adults face by ensuring they receive the same opportunities as every other family.

“Escape the Woods is a truly unique event and I hope as many people as possible are encouraged to take on the challenge all the while helping us to make a difference to the lives of people all over the North-east of Scotland.”

Escape the Woods will be held at Templars Scout Park at Blairs near Aberdeen on Saturday, March 25th 2017 from 10am – 6pm, and spectators are welcome for an additional cost of £2 per person.
