Max Bosworth has been supported by Cornerstone since 2008 initially by the Community Support Service in Perth, and then with support continuing through Cornerstone’s Craigie Service from 2015 when Max moved into his own flat.

In 2017, Max has a major flare up of ulcerative colitis which led to major surgery to remove some of his large intestine and bowel that left him with a stoma. Since then Cornerstone has been providing Max with 24/7 care to help him continue to live independently.

In 2019, Max become gravely ill again and had two further major surgeries which resulted in the removal of his large intensive, leaving him 'nil-by-mouth' and reliant on Total Parenteral Nutrition which is delivered through a central feed line that sits just about his heart. He spent nine months in hospital recovering and adjusting to this new life. His long and arduous journey has been an emotional rollercoaster for Max, his family and his support team.

During his time in hospital, Max suffered with some mobility issues and needed a wheelchair. Max’s team and family refused to leave him on his own so made the decision to say with him together to provide a 24/7 rota of care. Without the help of his loving family, all the doctors and nurses, dieticians and his dedicated team, Max’s story might have had a very different ending. With lots of encouragement from his family and care team Max has come full circle. He has gained almost full mobility and can now walk with a tri-walker.

To say thank you to Cornerstone and PINNT, the charities that supported him throughout his journey in hospital, Max, his family and his team took on an epic challenge to walk 400 miles collectively in June 2021.

Max’s challenge was nothing short of exceptional especially after his illness and surgery meant he had to relearn how to walk. In the end, Max and his wonderful family and friends walked over 840 miles and raised over £2,265 for his two chosen charities.

Our fundraising team joined Max and his supporters on his final two miles in Perth on 6th June. We’re proud that Max is part of Team Cornerstone!
