In compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, Cornerstone Community Care [registered office Johnstone House, 52-54 Rose Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1HA] offers the following statement regarding its efforts to prevent slavery and human trafficking in its supply chain.

Structure and Business

Cornerstone is a socially and ethically responsible service provider of high-quality care and support to adults, children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex care needs.

With 10 regional branches, supported by a central business support team, Cornerstone is funded mainly through local authority contracts and is one of Scotland’s largest social care charities and voluntary sector organisations. The majority of our front-line colleagues work directly with people they support in their own homes or out in the community.

Our Policies

Cornerstone has a zero tolerance policy regarding modern slavery as detailed in our colleague Conduct Policy and incorporated in our induction process as well as throughout our ways of working; respecting human rights, including children’s rights. Our rigorous policy on Recruitment complies with the Scottish Social Services Council and Care Inspectorates ‘Safer Recruitment through Better Recruitment’ guidelines meeting legislative and regulatory requirements regarding the recruitment of all our operational and business support colleagues.

Due Diligence

We are committed to acting with integrity in all our business relationships endeavouring to buy goods in good faith from companies who have complied with the Act; implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not taking place anywhere in our supply chain or in any part of our business. Controls include an organisational Risk Register which highlights any potential organisational concerns. No human trafficking or slavery risks have been identified/notified to the Board this financial year.

These actions are incorporated into the way we operate.

Advice and Support

Where necessary we will take advice from and consult with the Trafficking Awareness Raising Alliance (TARA), the Migrant Helpline and the Equality and Human Rights Commission in order to ensure these systems are robust and effective.

This statement covers the financial year April 2022 / March 2023. The statement will be reviewed annually by the senior leadership team and published on our website.
