Making memories for years to come

Leaving a legacy to Cornerstone

Since 1980, people just like you have helped Cornerstone provide care and support to children, young people and adults living with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.

We’ve made huge strides in the last 40 years, providing pioneering, person-centred care across Scotland, but there’s still lots to be done.

By leaving a legacy gift in your Will you’ll be ensuring we can continue to be there for people living with disabilities for years to come.

The impact of Legacies

Leaving a gift in your Will you’ll be ensuring we can continue to be there for people living with learning disabilities, autism and complex care needs for years to come live the best life possible. People like Anne.

Anne's Story

Anne is a loving sister, auntie and daughter who is supported in our Ayrshire branch. She used to be cared for by her dad and siblings but moved to Bessie Dunlop Court in April 2021 due to increased support needs. Anne’s sister Sandra shared;

"The staff haven’t just made Anne feel at home but they have welcomed us all; from the youngest babies in our family to my dad at 96. They also allayed any fears we had about Anne going to stay in 24/7 care. As well as Anne, her family have become very friendly faces here. Everyone looks forward to seeing where Anne’s enthusiasm and support can take her. The sky will continue to be her limit."

David Harkins, a mentor at Bessie Dunlop Court described the relationship between staff, Anne and her family; Legacy donations help us to continue to provide expert, person-centred care & support to people like Anne, throughout Scotland.

Since moving into Bessie Dunlop Court, Anne has become an integral part of the community, providing laughs and memories for staff and neighbours alike.

Mary's Gift to the people we support

At the end of 2020, Cornerstone received a truly incredible legacy gift of over £240,000 to support our work from Alexanderina, the mother of the late Mary Williamson, who was supported at Stevenson Court, in Aberdeen.

Mary had Down’s Syndrome and was supported by Cornerstone for over 23 years. Mary was very much loved by everyone at Stevenson Court, who have all taken to sharing some fond memories of her recently. ‘Mary Doll’ - as our Service Manager Malkie liked to call her - will be remembered fondly for her dressing up, and her love of parties and holidays.

The Mary Williamson Awards, created by the funds of a generous legacy donation from the late Mary Williamson, recognises the personal goals of the people we support.

In her honour, support workers across Cornerstone were invited to nominate someone who has worked hard to achieve a personal goal this year and the awards are given out at the annual Star Awards. Read more below on what impact has be made due to a legacy gift.

Making Memories for years to come

Leaving a gift in your Will is an incredible thing to do to commemorate your life whilst helping others, and we understand you might want to take some time to carefully consider your options and discuss this with a solicitor.

We'd love to hear about your legacy plans and why Cornerstone means so much to you and send you our Legacy Guide.  Please contact Darren Campbell-Pike, Fundraising Lead on 0300 131 3333 or by email on [email protected]

Thank you
