Sunnybank service gets a 'garden glow up' thanks to Quality of Life!

Our Sunnybank Service in Aberdeenshire supports three gentlemen with complex needs: Gary, James and Murray. They all love spending time in the garden in the sunshine, having BBQs, and even parties when the weather permits! James in particular really loves to watch the birds in the garden as they hover around the feeder we installed.

All of the individuals we support at Sunnybank have no verbal communication so sensory activities and surroundings are really important to them and enable them to live a fulfilled life. All three are also wheelchair users. It's vital as a result to find activities which will keep their minds and bodies active, something that can be especially difficult to source in the community.

Mentor Ayesha Stephen contacted the Fundraising Team in early 2021 about securing some funds for a 'garden glow up'!

She said, "We wanted to spend cinema nights in the garden, have parties and lots of fun activities that enable the people we support at Sunnybank to spend meaningful time together. They really love spending time in the garden but it wasn't meeting their needs as well as we knew it could during the pandemic. We really wanted our garden to be as bright and happy as Sunnybank itself! The Quality of Life Programme supported the Sunnybank team to refresh the garden with a lick of paint, some specialist outdoor bean bags, an accessible table, and some sensory garden equipment."
