Highland Way is a brand new service that opened its doors in August of 2021. The service will see our Moray branch provide tailored support and individualised packages of care to six individuals with additional support needs.

Branch Leader, Elaine Duffy, commented on the new service,

“We feel really privileged to support the individuals who are moving into Highland Way - it’s a really exciting time! The new service will allow six individuals to transition to their own tenancies (many for the first time) over the next couple of months, and develop an increased level of independence. Through working closely with our new tenants, as well as their families and carers, our skilled support team will use a person-centred approach to help them set tailored goals, settle in quickly and thrive in their new homes”.

The opening of the new service also marks the opening of some great career opportunities and the search is now on for caring, motivated and reliable people interested in joining the support team at Buckie. Suitable candidates will play an important role in helping the individuals reach their goals and to become an active part of their local community, with various permanent and relief contracts now available to allow for ‘around the clock’ support, tailored to individual need.

Highland Way is the first service of its kind for Cornerstone in Moray due to it being a collection of individual properties.  The service also includes a communal flat which will act as both a staff base and social space for the people supported to come together and meet each other and enjoy various activities.  Individuals will be supported to maintain their own tenancies and develop their independence with levels of staff support tailored to their own individual needs.  The homes also include state of the art telecare technology, supporting tenants to further develop their independence. Support workers will assist the individuals with all aspects of daily living including cooking, housework, shopping, medication and personal care and also support them in pursuing their hobbies and interests too.

One of the first tenants to move in has said:

“Living in Highland Way is great. The house has plenty of space and is bright and comfortable. It’s exciting living in my own house and with help I can do loads of things and get out and about in Buckie to shops and the pub. I can still get the bus to work, too. It’s just a shame I have to do the washing up!”

The new service at Highland Way is part of a wider project by Hanover Housing to include and provide a total of six new, modern and energy-efficient homes at the new site in Buckie, Moray.
