Christianah’s previous home was Nigeria before moving to Scotland. She carried out voluntary work caring in Nigeria and when she first came to Scotland. She started working for Cornerstone just over a year ago and is passionate about caring. She would like to carry on studying once she gains her Modern Apprenticeship. 

We put some questions to Christianah to get her views on her Modern Apprenticeship and how it has helped her to develop her meta-skills. 

Why did you decide to do a Modern Apprenticeship? 

I am passionate about health and wellbeing and want to play a role in improving the quality of life for others. A modern apprenticeship in care provides the perfect opportunity to build my skills and knowledge while turning my interests into a meaningful career. 

What sort of meta-skills have you learnt as part of your Modern Apprenticeship?

How has doing a Modern Apprenticeship helped you in your day to day job? 

The training I have received through the Modern Apprenticeship has greatly boosted my confidence in making decisions in my role. Whether it’s assessing the people I support needs or handling an unexpected situation, I now feel more assured in making the right call. 

What is the most rewarding part of your Modern Apprenticeship? 

Modern Apprenticeship has given me valuable skills and knowledge that I can use in my everyday tasks. From improving the level of care I provide to managing my time better and learning new methods, the apprenticeship has equipped me with the knowledge to be more effective in my role. 

Which part of doing a Modern Apprenticeship has been the most interesting?  What have you really enjoyed? 

One of the things I have truly enjoyed about the apprenticeship is strengthening my problem solving skills. Every day brings its own set of challenges, and I find it rewarding to managed them and coming up with solutions that best support the individuals in my care. 

What has been the most surprising thing about doing a Modern Apprenticeship? 

I have been surprised by how much of the learning is practical and directly relevant to the job. Rather than focusing solely on classroom based instruction, the apprenticeship has provided me with skills and knowledge that I can apply immediately to my everyday activities. 

What would you say to someone thinking of doing a Modern Apprenticeship? 

I would encourage them to go for it, It’s an excellent opportunity for both personal and professional growth. You will not only acquire new skills but also build confidence, enhance your problem solving abilities and gain a deeper understanding.
